Things to do near Roaches Line

Festivals
Summer is festival season and around these parts almost every town has a community festival that is full of activities and fun. But our favorite is the Brigus Blueberry Festival. Held every year in August, this award-winning 3 day festival is filled with activities, craft stalls, children’s games, raffles, dances, and the most incredible blueberry crumble you have ever tasted!
Historic Sites
Nearby Cupids was first settled in 1610 by John Guy and is the oldest community in Newfoundland. See that history come to life by visiting the active archaeological site at Cupid’s Cove Plantation. Next, you can travel the short distance to Brigus and see historic Hawthorne Cottage, the home of the world-famous seaman and traveller, Captain Bob Bartlett.
Culture & Arts
If culture and arts are your thing, we have you covered. Check out the rich and vibrant history of the region at one of the local museums. You can also take in a show at the Perchance Theater where renditions of Shakespeare plays are a staple. Have an eye for art? Take in the Christopher Pratt Gallery and let the beautiful works take you on “The Road to Yesterday.”
Tours & Activities
If you want to enjoy a day on the water, take a boat tour and watch for whales, seals, and other marine life as you enjoy the beautiful coastline, or hop on a paddleboard and get out on the water for yourself. Fancy yourself a ‘land lubber’? Then you can enjoy exploring the area by booking yourself a custom tour in a classic trolley or coach. You can also visit a genuine blacksmith at a working heritage forge.
Hiking
Get out and stretch your legs on one of the many nearby hiking trails. Want a scenic leisurely walk? We have that. Want to work up a good sweat and give your lungs a workout while taking in some amazing scenery? We have that, too. Whether you are an avid hiker or an afternoon stroller, there is something for you here.
Nature & Parks
If you want to see and learn about Newfoundland wildlife, make the drive to nearby Salmonier Nature Park. The wide variety of animals and birds is sure to excite children both young and old. Prefer something a little wilder? Then take the moderately challenging 10K out-and-back wilderness hike in the beautiful Hawke Hills Ecological Reserve and see arctic-alpine plants that are rarely seen in these latitudes. If you want to do something a little more low-key and relaxing, grab a picnic lunch or your camera and head to one of the many lovely community gardens in the area. They are almost as numerous and diverse as the people that visit them.
